JOB SUMMARY:

This role is considered Hybrid, which means the employee will work 2-3 days onsite at a Company designated location and occasionally from home.
Industrial Light & Magic is looking for a Previs Generalist to join our outstanding team. Previs Generalists work closely with the Previs Supervisor and VFX Supervisor to craft and build shots and sequences ensuring the Director and Clients vision are met through dynamic camera movement, animation, composition, staging, lighting and editing.
We’re looking for artists who love problem solving and get satisfaction from collaborating with other previs artists as one creative unit!

What You’ll Do

  • Responsible for the following areas:
  • Asset Dev: Maya/Unreal - Modeling, texturing, shading of assets
  • Set Dressing: Maya - Preparation of environments for previs shot designers
  • Rigging: Maya - In-shot rigging solutions for props and assets
  • Animation: Maya - Basic animation abilities (ie, characters, vehicles, FX)
  • Lighting+Rendering: Maya/Unreal - Preparation of low tech, fast render aesthetic solutions in Maya and Unreal Engine
  • Tool Dev: Creation of tools to assist the previs team
  • Effects: Maya/Unreal - Particle sims, cloth sims, niagara system, rigid sims, etc.
  • Compositing: Nuke - Basic compositing abilities to facilitate a post process look dev pass
  • Troubleshoot assets and shots, continually looking for and suggesting improvements to increase overall efficiency and productivity
  • Maintain or exceeds consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high quality work
  • Comfortable communicating and collaborating with other departments across ILM
  • Demonstrate flexibility with iterative process
  • Take initiative to acquire new skills and think outside of the box

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in Computer Science, computer visualization, or computer animation required
  • 3+ years of experience in visual effects, games and/or feature animation film
  • Proficiency with Linux, Maya, Unreal Engine, Substance Painter / Mari & Nuke
  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative suite
  • Advanced problem solving skills
  • Experience modeling, rigging, texturing, lighting and/or compositing on a previs timeline
  • Experience creating content optimized for 24 fps playback in maya’s viewport 2.0
  • A reel demonstrating strong creative and technical ability in photo-realistic 3D with a focus on previs
  • Strong sense of composition, animation, blocking, camera movement and cinematic terminology
  • Nice to have:
  • Programming knowledge in Python or C++
  • Knowledge or experience with sound design

JoinILM
The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$84,100 to C$107,700 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits, may be offered dependent on the level and position offered.
