Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities:
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
Iridium is seeking a motivated 3GPP Systems Engineer to join our System Architecture team and participate in the integration efforts between Iridium and 4G/5G networks. As a 3GPP Systems Engineer, you’ll work closely with peer engineers to establish strategic plans and objectives in support of Iridium’s goals in evolving terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in influencing the development of global mobile standards, ensuring that our company’s interests and technologies are well-represented in the 3GPP working groups. This position requires a deep understanding of mobile telecommunications, strong technical expertise, and excellent communication and negotiation skills. This role will also encompass driving adoption of 5G technologies within Iridium’s network roadmap. As such, it is a unique opportunity to be at the intersection of satellite and terrestrial networks.
Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in 3GPP meetings, including working groups, plenary sessions, and ad hoc meetings
- Represent Iridium in discussions, debates, and decision-making processes within 3GPP
- Advocate for the company’s positions and proposals, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and objectives
- Provide technical input and contribute to the development of 3GPP standards, including specifications for 4G, 5G, and beyond
- Analyze and interpret complex technical documents, standards, and proposals
- Provide subject matter expertise to ensure standards options are well communicated and well documented to ensure the Iridium system architecture is supportable within the approved standards
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and foster a collaborative environment within the company
- Build and maintain relationships with other 3GPP delegates, industry experts, and representatives from other companies and organizations
