The Global Functions team is looking for a Principal Accountant to take over management of budgeting and accounting for a number of large corporate business units. The Global Functions team manages a number of our corporate business units including Fortescue IT (FIT), Approvals Communities and Environment (ACE), Technical Services, Innovation, R&D, CFO, CEOs and CoSec.
As a Principal in the team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and reporting for a number of these business units, working closely with leadership team members and supported directly by an Intermediate Accountant.
To be successful in this role, you will need to be a quick but critical thinker, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field
  • CA/CPA/CIMA qualification
  • 7+ years management or financial accounting experience - experience in mining, resources, heavy industry or similar is preferred but not essential
  • Ability to interpret and identify key cost drivers to deliver insight and opportunity across all levels within the business
  • Proficiency in accounting ERP system, Microsoft, and data analysis tools (SAP and Anaplan experience beneficial)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Passion for continuous improvement, together with adaptability and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating and delivering accurate month-end, quarterly forecast, and annual budget reports
  • Business partnering with key stakeholders to provide financial insights critical to decision-making
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams to monitor key financial performance indicators, identify business improvement opportunities, and implement cost-saving initiatives.
  • Providing comprehensive analysis and driver-based cost variance analysis to support business decisions
  • Leading the development and implementation of internal controls and financial policies – including streamlining, automating and improvement processes and activities
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and Fortescue accounting policies
