PRINCIPAL AI&T ENGINEER - LEAD

LeoStella is a state-of-the-art small satellite design and manufacturing company based in the Seattle area. At LeoStella, we are redefining how high-quality satellite constellations are built at scale. Our focus is on developing and using intelligent and agile engineering and manufacturing processes to accelerate the development and production of small-sat constellations, all while lowering costs and increasing on-orbit capabilities.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

As a Principal AI&T Engineer, you will create and execute assembly, integration, and test plans for flight hardware that drives mission execution and success. We’re looking for an experienced, creative, and energetic technical lead who enjoys working very closely with software and hardware in an agile and dynamic environment where schedules are critical.
You’ll be responsible for leading assembly, integration and test across LeoStella’s next-generation satellite products and their subsystems. You’ll work with both internal and external customers to ensure tests are thorough and meet all requirements. You’ll collaborate with aerospace system and hardware engineers to help specify requirements and provide feedback to design engineers for test/design for manufacturing (DFT/DFM).
To be successful in this position, you will need to be passionate about delivering exceptional products that meet or exceed requirements and enable new capabilities for satellite performance. This passion will fuel your drive to push tasks to ultimate completion. You will also need to enjoy working in a collaborative, hands-on environment and work daily with engineers from multiple disciplines – systems, electrical, etc. You must be eager to receive and give peer feedback that enables our high performing team to be greater than the sum of its parts.
This is an on-site position in Tukwila, WA.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, development, and implementation of the assembly and integration of satellites and their subsystems
  • Conception, definition, and documentation of test procedures, test plans and test strategies in alignment with engineering disciplines and project management.
  • Design and design support of ground support equipment and test fixturing
  • Architect, design, procure, and build systems to enable comprehensive testing of our satellites
  • Write software (Python) to control and monitor components, subsystems, and complete satellites
  • Creation and implementation of tests from analysis, requirements, and existing procedures.
  • Develop and execute integration/test procedures to assemble and verify satellite design/performance
  • Develop process improvement tools and methods to help streamline test and integration operations.
  • Ensure that adequate test, inspection, and analysis reports verify compliance with the requirements
  • Create work instructions for the assembly of sub-assemblies and entire satellites
  • Mentorship of junior AI&T Engineers
  • Other job duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 8-15+ years’ experience in an Assembly, Integration, and Test role in the aerospace industry
  • Demonstrated examples of leading the planning, development, and implementation of the assembly and integration of satellites and their subsystems
  • Experience with the conception, definition, and documentation of test procedures, test plans and test strategies in alignment with engineering disciplines and project management.
  • Experience creating and executing tests from analysis, requirements, and existing procedures.
  • Hands-on experience in a production/manufacturing environment; examples of developing process improvement tools and methods to help streamline test and integration operations.
  • 3+ years using an ERP system, preferably Plex

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with designing fixturing and ground support equipment
  • Familiarity with CAD tools, such as PTC Creo
  • Experience with software scheduling and tasking tools (e.g. Jira)
  • Familiarity with software version control systems (e.g. Git)
  • Experience presenting to and interfacing with external customers

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Compensation range is $125-160K and 10% target bonus
  • Your level/title, base salary, and bonus will be determined on a case by case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
  • Base salary is one part of your total rewards package - you may also be eligible for up to 10% potential bonuses. Additional employee benefits are detailed below as well.
