Responsibilities:
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Middle School Associate Principal will be responsible for the overall administration of instructional program and campus level operations. Coordinates assigned student activities and services.
The Middle School Associate Principal must act with integrity, support organizational goals, demonstrate the ability to inspire, grow and motivate others, utilize feedback, drive for results and commit to championing the needs of the students, employees and overall District.
MAJOR REPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Management
- Use campus data to evaluate effectiveness of educational programs and instructional strategies providing recommendations for improvement.
- Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs that result in authentic student engagement and support the Profile of a SISD graduate.
- Promote the use of technology in teaching/learning process.
- Assist principal in developing plans for on-going professional learning.
School/Organizational Climate
- Work with program directors to ensure curriculum alignment, effective curriculum implementation, instructional strategies and appropriate materials and resources.
- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
- Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in professional learning communities.
- Provide for two-way communication with district personnel, staff, students, parents and community.
- Ensures the effective and quick resolutions to conflicts and demonstrates resilience during and after high stress situations.
- Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance to staff and students. Recognize excellence and achievement.
School / Organizational Improvement
- Participate in building a common vision for school improvement and assists in the planning of activities that will ensure attainment of the school mission.
- Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records to track progress on local, state, and national performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
- Identify, analyze, and apply research findings (e.g., Breaking Ranks recommendations, National Career Academy Coalition standards, P21) to promote school improvement.
- Work with principal and campus advisory committee in setting annual campus performance goals
Personnel Management
- Assist principal in Interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
- Assist the principal in defining expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, communication with the public, and participation in professional learning communities.
- Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as second appraiser for designated teachers as needed.
- Make recommendations to principal; on termination, suspension, or non-renewal of employees assigned to campus.
- Work with campus advisory committee to plan professional development activities.
- Confer with subordinates regarding their professional growth. Work with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.
- Work with staff on developing assessments, analyzing student performance and developing plans for improvements.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
- Comply with district policies and state federal laws and regulations affecting the schools.
- Develop campus budget recommendations based on documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs. Keep programs within budget limits. Maintain fiscal control. Accurately report fiscal information.
- Supervise operations in principal’s absence.
- Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
- Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
- Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
Student Management
- Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
- Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
- Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
Professional Growth and Development
- Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior. Serve as a role model for all campus staff.
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
School/Community Relations
- Articulate the school’s mission to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff assigned to campus including assistant principal(s), teacher(s), counselor(s), librarian(s), instructional aides, clerical support staff, and custodians.
- Provide assistance to other administrative supervisors who are working with staff members needing an intervention plan for staff in need of assistance.
