Description:

HOW WILL I HELP?

The Principal Automation Engineer (DevOps) function plays an important role in the development and maintenance of technical solutions across Westpac enterprise compute environments (on-premises and cloud) as we drive towards self-service, standard patterns and a culture of continuous improvement.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Leverage your extensive technical skills and experience to thoughtfully lead discussions on automation, focusing on overcoming infrastructure automation challenges within the organization.
  • Develop automation workflows and software to support infrastructure (VMs and networking) orchestration and automation across on-premises VMWare (predominately) and some Public Cloud.
  • Develop Terraform modules and supporting tooling that enable consistent patterns for compute and network (e.g. load balancing) resources.
  • Improve the reliability and quality of platform automation using your understanding of observability and inherent curiosity to ask, “what can be improved?”.
  • With your strong customer focus, build and maintain relationships as an SME to identify new automation opportunities and evolve existing automations to extend coverage and reduce toil.
  • Mentor and develop junior members of the team to deliver quality outcomes and support growth into senior engineers.
  • With your skills, experience and resourcefulness, provide technical expertise to Enterprise Compute and Storage teams, covering all aspects of infrastructure within a specific service or pattern.
  • Contributing to briefings and presentations about the relevance and value of IT automation to the organisation.
  • Writing clear documentation for feature design and customer consumption.
