Ellement Consulting Group is currently seeking to fill the position of a full-time Principal in the Benefits Consulting Practice, based in Vancouver. This position will focus on effective development and delivery of various benefits consulting projects.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Principal, Benefits is a senior role designed for a seasoned practitioner with extensive experience in benefits consulting. This senior position is responsible for leading the strategic direction and operational execution of the firm’s benefits consulting services. The Principal will play a key role in managing large and complex benefit programs, providing expert advice, and ensuring the delivery of innovative solutions to meet the diverse needs of clients. This role demands a dynamic leader capable of overseeing multiple projects, mentoring team members, and driving business growth while maintaining strong client relationships and adhering to industry regulations.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Possessing FCIA (Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries) or ACIA (Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries) designation is a strong differentiator but not required for the role.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 10 Years of Experience: Extensive experience in benefits consulting at both analyst and consultant levels. Demonstrated ability in managing large, either single-employer or multi-employer, benefit programs.
- Proven Track Record: Established history of collaborative work with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders in the benefits industry.

- Technical and Consulting Proficiency: Well-rounded background in core insurance operations and ideally actuarial valuations. Expertise in one or more practice areas.
- Leadership and Management: Strong leadership skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Capable of mentoring, coaching, and managing teams.
- Innovative and Analytical Mindset: Ability to develop innovative solutions and continually adapt to market changes and new regulatory policies.
- Client Relationship Management: Excellent communication skills with a strong focus on building and maintaining client relationships.
- Continual Learner: Strong desire to continually learn and grow within a team environment.
- Results-Driven: Focused on achieving results that promote business growth and client satisfaction.
- Professionalism: Maintains high standards of professionalism and confidentiality in all dealings.
- Successful completion of a cleared criminal background check is required.
In support of a flexible work environment, you are expected to attend the office for a minimum of one to three days per week.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Client Management:
- Act as a senior leader within the firm, guiding teams in the development of analysis, reports, and strategic recommendations for clients. Oversee and ensure the quality of client projects, maintaining responsibility for client satisfaction and management.
Technical Expertise and Innovation:
- Oversee and deliver technical consulting projects to a diverse group of clients including some of the largest benefits plans in Canada. Develop unique, technically sound solutions tailored to client needs and market changes.
- Provide strategic input to client teams around analysis and recommendations while focusing work product to support client decisions in a plain language communication style.
- An actuarial background is an asset but not required for this role, however, if the successful candidate is an actuary the work would include overseeing and signing various valuation and disclosure statements.
Relationship Building and Advisory:
- Actively build and maintain strong relationships with clients, delivering insights and advice that align with their strategic objectives. Travel as necessary to engage with clients and strengthen partnerships.
Team Development and Mentoring:
- Mentor and help develop the benefits team, supporting the creation of internal tools and models to enhance service delivery. Train and manage team members as needed, fostering a dynamic and learning-oriented team environment.
