8b Principal psychologist within CYP MHST Programme
Under the umbrella of the Rise Children and Young Peoples mental health service Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Partnership Trust are expanding our Mental Health Support Teams programme.

This is an exciting time to join the MHST programme as we expand the clinical leadership structure ensuring that the programme has stability and leadership to deliver and grow.
Your role as the 8b Principal psychologist will be critical in leading and overseeing the delivery of the provision of high-quality specialist clinical psychological interventions including multilevel psychological CBT approach within the CYP Mental Health Support Teams (MHST’s).
The role is to work as a higher senior member of an exciting service which has been growing since the initial trailblazer of 2019.
Your role will further enhance the commitment we have to working in partnership with our education and commissioner colleagues to ensure the MHST programme is successful and meets the needs of our CYP.
Your role will be one of the senior clinical leaders of the MHST service strengthening the clinical offer and structure. You will be expected to lead, oversee and enable the teams to provide a high-quality psychological service to the CYP their families and the school staff.
You will be expected to hold a caseload, support the CYP patient flow through supervision and work collaboratively with the leadership team and external stakeholders.
You will provide highly specialist psychological formulations, assessments and therapy of service users using highly complex psychological data gained from a wide variety of sources.

The Mental Health in Schools Team (MHST) programme involves bringing together a new workforce to provide additional capacity to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties within educational settings. The area teams provide brief, evidence-based interventions at an early stage of need to children, young people and parents individually or in group settings as well as supporting the implementation of effective whole school and college approaches to mental health to improve outcomes and reduce the need for future more costly specialist RISE interventions. The current MHST clinical offer is based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT approaches), with CBT therapists and Educational and Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners delivering within school and college settings.
The post holder will support the governance, leadership and delivery of the MHST model within identified school and colleges. This will include considering outcomes and caseload flow so as to ensure as a service we are delivering a robust and continually improving approach, in order to promote the development, welfare and secure the wellbeing of children and young people and their families. The post holder will support the team in developing whole school and college approaches to mental health.
- The post holder will have oversight of the supervision requirements and delivery to the team members ensuring that the MHST model is adhered to.
- The post holder will deliver services that are responsive to local and national directives and need, promoting a learning culture that leads to improved service delivery and robust clinical governance.
- The post holder will oversee the provision of high-quality specialist clinical psychological interventions and services to service users. The post holder will provide specialist psychological formulation, assessment and therapy, offering advice and consultation on service user’s psychological care to colleagues from other disciplines to patients’ families carers and school staff. The post holder will support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other clinicians involved with these services, working autonomously within professional guidelines, exercising full clinical responsibility, and implementing changes where necessary.
- The post holder will work co-operatively with multidisciplinary colleagues, operational and transformational leads to contribute to service development and to achieve service goals.
- The post holder will be expected to provide clinical supervision to other psychological services staff which may include some or all of the following: qualified psychologists, trainee and assistant psychologists, CBT Therapists, Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs), or other psychological services staff.
