The post is part of a small neonatal psychology team, including another Principal Clinical Psychologist (0.6), a trainee and assistant psychologist. It sits within a larger operational delivery network and there are opportunities to work with other psychologists in other hospitals on joint service development projects.

The post-holder will work systemically, supporting the neonatal MDT to deliver psychologically informed care to babies and their families, as well as providing targeted, specialist psychological input to families on the neonatal unit, and during their transition home (or to another inpatient setting). They will liaise closely with maternity and community-based services to ensure continuity of care along the patient pathway. An important part of the role will be to provide training, debriefs, consultation and support to neonatal colleagues.
The team is supported by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, another Band 8b psychologist a Trainee and Assistant Psychologist and there is access to advice from psychiatry within the wider team. The post holder will attend Children’s Psychological Medicine Meetings and will contribute to teaching in the form of Grand Rounds in both the neonatal and Children’s settings.
As well as clinical work there are opportunities to engage in research and the department has strong links with the doctoral training course with regular clinical and research trainees on placement.
