Description:

Principal Engineer - Protection & Control, Avangrid Service Company, Rochester, NY:
Perform special projects and studies that innovatively solve unique and complex problems with broad impact to the business. Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve unique problems or to improve processes/services. Solves complex and unique substation engineering problems. Utilizes a broad prospective to investigate and identify innovative solutions. Contribute to the development & execution of Departmental or Divisional strategy. Recognized engineering expert for equipment of extreme importance to AVANGRID and/or the industry. Anticipates internal/external business issues & recommend process improvements. Create and maintain design libraries for medium and high voltage substations agree with department plan. Develop plan to maintain libraries based on lessons learnt, new practices and industry trends. Recognized expert for disciplines of extreme importance to AVANGRID including following disciplines: Bus Configurations, Functional diagrams for control and protection, Protection, control and communication schemes, Control and protection schematics, Wiring diagrams and cable schedule. Interpret internal/external business issues and recommend best practices and/or process improvements. Participate in Industry associations. Leads teams, acts as a facilitator and experienced mentor. Develop innovative services, technologies, & make recommendations with respect to current and future customer & stakeholder needs. Make presentations to regulatory/public entities. Experienced mentor to engineers in substation design and engineering development. Manages and provides direction for resources outside of the department. Design systems to resolve highly complex problems in non-std situations & develop creative solutions that achieve division results. Independently apply design standards, industry codes, design criteria, guidelines & AVANGRID polices/procedures. Ensure overall development of Conceptual engineering design of major Transmission projects developments and proposals. Project Transmission Engineering performance and overseeing including all phases such as scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, contract management and design. Perform standard and complex engineering analyses, designs and calculations. Responsible for leading and creating new conceptual designs and overseeing and manage the work of external engineering firms ensuring competitive and reliable transmission solutions.
Full time employment, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week, $143,000.00 per year

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field, and 10 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience.
Must have 10 years of experience with documenting and interpreting engineering documentation.
Must have 10 years of experience reviewing and approving engineering work completed by others to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements.
Must have 10 years of experience with electric transmission design, specifically Transmission and Distribution substations.
Must have 5 years of experience with local, state, and national codes and standards.
Must have 5 years of experience with the construction process within the Transmission and Distribution industry.
Must have 3 years of experience with leading a team and/or mentoring others.
