Job Function Summary
Supports the organization by providing economic modeling and power-cost projections for financial planning and ratemaking. Serves as internal consultant on financial matters for the organization specific to its power supply portfolio. Creates financial models of scenarios for future business planning decisions in addition to financial models used directly in determining customer rates under PGE’s tariff schedule 125 (the Annual Power Cost Update).
Key Responsibilities
Financial Optimization Modeling Develops longer-term financial models with complex assumptions and relationships which receive a high level of scrutiny internally and by regulatory groups. Continuously improve and refine existing optimization models to incorporate new data sources, market trends, and regulatory changes.
Scenario Analysis Perform sensitivity analyses, scenario modeling, and risk assessments to evaluate the impact of various factors on portfolio performance and identify optimal strategies.
Model Updates Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including energy traders, asset managers, and regulatory affairs, to understand business requirements. Translate those requirements and integrate into existing power cost optimization model.
Internal Consulting Develops standards/guidelines for reports documenting analyses; develops and maintains business rules and data hierarchies.
External Interaction Presents information and provides advice and guidance on complex or escalated information requests for presentation to Oregon Public Utilities Commission and other external parties
Education/Experience/Certifications
Education Requires a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, power systems engineering, operations research, economics with a focus on econometrics or other related field or equivalent experience.
Experience Typically eight or more years in related field with a focus on simulation or optimization modeling.

Advanced knowledge of regulated utility operations, revenue requirements, utility accounting principles (e.g., rate-base return standard, AFUDC), wholesale power market and the basics of power plant and transmission system operation and market fundamentals
Advanced mathematical skills, including calculus, ordinary and partial differential equations, linear algebra, probability and multivariate statistics
Advanced ability to translate complex business problems into mathematical models
Advanced ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Compensation Range:
$104,325.00 - $173,875.00
Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
