Description:
Apply your information knowledge and expertise to proactively support cancer services information requirements. Including, but not limited to, information and advice on benchmarking, performance metrics, mortality statistics, scenario modelling, demand predictions and capacity assessments. Use your management skills to ensure your analyst team works efficiently and cooperatively to meet customers information needs through the provision of regular reports, scorecards / dashboards, advice and ad hoc analyses. You will act as an information ambassador for customer Cancer Services in Trust meetings and discussions, including with external bodies (e.g.
commissioners, auditors, Dr Foster). Develop a close understanding of Cancer Services and adopt a pro-active approach to problem solving and anticipating and evaluating information needs. Build strong working relations with Cancer teams and Corporate Directorates, in particular with Cancer Directors, Clinical Directors, General Managers and Service Managers. Analyse cancer performance, investigating the underlying causes and highlighting key issues for discussion and action.
Ensure that management are aware of key issues and risks highlighted by cancer information. Ensure mandatory reporting, both internal and external, is accurate and timely; and that Data Quality protocols for sign-off are adhered to and recorded. Lead your teams in development of best practice for analysis and information presentation. Assess the analytical capability of managers within cancer services.
Provide training and support to develop this capability so that all managers are able of performing their own basic analyses with minimal support. Regularly provide presentations at cancer meetings, delivering formal, highly complex information to large groups of stakeholders (including clinical and non-clinical staff). Support the Data Warehouse Team and the Data Quality Team in delivering their objectives. Reporting to the Deputy Head of Information, you will line-manage a small team of analysts, typically one Senior Information Analyst.
Additionally you will form and lead small project teams with members drawn from the Information and other departments. Plan and manage your teams work load to achieve agreed department objectives. Set objectives for your staff and review their performance against agreed criteria and standards. Develop staff within your team to meet current and future requirements.
Ensure they receive appropriate training and support. Provide personal mentoring to your staff in relation to work, training and any issues affecting their performance at work. Manage relationships with senior stakeholders around the Trust. Research innovative analytical methods, tools and approaches which could be used by the Trust (e.g., through liaison with academic institutions or colleagues in other NHS organisations).
Assist in the development and maintenance of internal policies, practices and procedures as appropriate. Authorised signatory for teams time sheets (overtime, bank / agency) and for department stock orders. Support Deputy Head of Information and Head of Information in department planning and budget setting. Deputise for the Deputy Head of Information or Head of Information as required
