About the Role

  • Work as part of a team to contribute to the provision of high-quality, timely and pragmatic legal services for Metro South
  • Provide professional legal advice (often in urgent circumstances and without supervision) across a wide range of areas including but not limited to:
  • Legal risk management
  • Confidentiality
  • Consent to treatment/informed consent - adults and children
  • Substituted consent, capacity,
  • Privacy
  • Right to information
  • Human rights
  • Anti-discrimination
  • Termination of pregnancy
  • End of life
  • Child protection
  • Evidence and summons/subpoenas
  • Indemnity/conflict of interest
  • Prepare/review statements to inform coronial investigations and instruct Counsel and/or represent the interests of Metro South Health as an advocate at Coronial
  • Prepare/review statements for police investigations/criminal
  • Prepare/review documentation associated with reviews and investigations under the Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011.
  • Manage medical negligence and non health-care claims under the Personal Injury Proceedings Act
  • Manage MSH’s involvement in litigation/legal proceedings in various courts/jurisdictions (i.e judicial reviews, coronial investigations and inquests, criminal proceedings, QCAT, personal injury claims, human rights and anti-discrimination matters)
  • Attend complex case/critical incident meetings
