Description:
Job Title: Principal Manufacturing Engineer – Design for Manufacture
Location: Barrow-in-Furness – Onsite
Salary: Competitive
What you’ll be doing:
- Reviewing all internal and external customer interface requirements and confirming or defining the overall tolerance requirement for the build
- Working in conjunction with the Engineering, Quality Control and MBP to define proposed datum systems and tolerance cascades/aggregation, based on agreed build philosophies, variation analysis and the current manufacturing capabilities
- Feeding back the tolerances and datum schemes into the design process on the 2D drawing outputs and 3D models in order to capture the design for manufacturing and assembly intent
- Supporting Manufacturing Build Planning through interaction with Dimensional Control to confirm mandatory hold and inspection points in the build sequence and production routings
- Identifying appropriate measurement and setting techniques to support an efficient and accurate build sequence, which will maintain the design intent
- Specifying tools and techniques to be included in manufacturing instructions and provide the build teams with the capability to control key product characteristics at each stage of the build
- Setting build tolerances to manage tolerance aggregation and ensure these are marked on drawings separately to the design tolerances set by Engineering
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:
Essential
- HNC or equivalent technical qualification or significant experience
- CEng / IEng accredited, or willingness to work towards achieving it
- Leadership and Management Qualifications / Programmes or equivalent (either already awarded, or willingness to obtain)
- Project Management experience
- Ability to analyse complex problems and identify the most critical issues
Desirable
- An excellent understanding of all relevant tools (software based or otherwise)
