Description:

At Oxford Instruments, we enable the world’s leading industrial companies and scientific research communities to image, analyse and manipulate materials down to the atomic and molecular level. Our customers use our NanoScience ultra-low temperature and high magnetic field environments to go beyond what was once thought possible, whether that’s creating Nobel Prize winning materials or developing quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Customer and Sustaining Engineering team. Our products are contributing towards the development of quantum computing, the study of dark matter and the creation of new materials. If you have a genuine love of technology, an eye for quality design, then this is the role for you.
The opportunity
In this role you will be technically responsible for ensuring that projects meet internal and external customer requirements. You will lead on customer projects, from design through to production in conjunction with the wider technology team, as well as providing technical support for the manufacture, installation and support of our systems. As a principal you will manage the analysis of designs through hand calculations and FEA, be involved in the customisation of standard products and lead on the technical aspects using various engineering tools to make informed design decisions.
About you
It is likely that you will have a degree or higher in a relevant engineering or science discipline, with extensive relevant work experience, including working with complex systems/systems configuration, ideally within a commercial manufacturing environment. Your ability to lead on large projects, knowledge of FMEA and risk analysis is essential. You will also be familiar with project management techniques, have an excellent understanding of mechanical design principals and able to coach and mentor other members of the team.
Benefits
In addition to a competitive starting salary, Oxford Instruments offers flexible working hours and a half-day on Fridays. We also offer 25 days annual leave, private healthcare, a share incentive plan, a defined contribution Group Personal Pension Plan, and a flexible benefits package that you can tailor to your own requirements. We also invest in our talented employees by supporting them in their ongoing career and development so that they reach their full potential. We care and work hard to provide a workplace where you can grow and learn. #LI-JR1
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability.
Note to recruitment agencies: Oxford Instruments operates a Preferred Supplier List, and we do not accept unsolicited agency CVs.
