Summary of Responsibilities
The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer independently performs and leads analysis and design activities in support of the facility, engineering programs and projects. Utilizing basic and advanced engineering fundamentals, as assigned, perform owner acceptance reviews of design packages developed by design agencies and the Architect Engineer. Perform/lead other engineering activities required to support facility design, configuration control and operation.
Education and Experience
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other related science or technical field and at least 5 years of relevant experience. The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Mechanical Design Engineering with 10 or more years of relevant experience.

Specific Skills:

  • Must be able to independently perform and lead analyses and design activities ensuring plant designs and as-built facilities meet site requirements as well as Urenco’s design and engineering standards.
  • Must have a high, in-depth level of knowledge and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to take direction and function as a team member to solve a variety of engineering problems in the applicable discipline.
  • Able to communicate and work effectively with other organizations to resolve technical issues and to implement engineering outputs.
  • Able to provide presentations and information to senior management on a regular basis to communicate status and performance.
  • The ability to resolve and/or escalate issues to appropriate levels of management in a timely fashion.

Job Details

  • The work location for this position is Urenco USA, Eunice, NM.
  • Emergency Response requirements are negotiable.
  • Work Schedule: Professional work schedule/ with minimal night/ weekend support. Some nights and weekend work may be required. Employees are also subject to call-outs as needed.
  • Travel Required: 20% of the time or less as required.
  • Security Clearance Requirement: Controlled Access Area (CAA) Access and an L or Q level security clearance is required.
  • Work Environment: Radiological exposure expectations of < 100 mrem/yr. General Office, Plant Production Areas. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets etc.

Primary Functions

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of facility’s design and licensing basis in the assigned area of responsibility. Acquire and maintain required training and qualifications necessary to perform assigned job responsibilities.
  • Develop resolution of technical problems in accordance with established procedures and available vendor documents (including but not limited to: Nonconformance Evaluations, Operability Determinations, and Quality Level determinations)
  • Perform analysis, calculations; and develop designs in support of the assigned facility and engineering programs and projects.

  • Develop Plant Modification packages from described desired solution or from described issue.
  • Perform technical and quality reviews of a wide array of engineering and technical products. Advanced experience levels also perform reviews of non-typical documents and situations. Including 10 CFR 70.72(c) reviews (and maintaining such qualifications).
  • Respond to departmental engineering inquiries, including interpreting engineering specifications and generating strategies for project/system.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment and professional rigor in the performance of all analyses and assigned tasks.
