We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to our projects in the nuclear sector.

JOB DESCRIPTION

You will lead structural mechanics design activities on major nuclear projects, such as Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, and other nuclear projects. This role involves advanced Finite Element Analysis, structural assessments, and design work for reinforced concrete (RC) and steel structures under various loading conditions, including seismic, blast, and impact.

As the Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will have the following key responsibilities :

  • Lead and manage the structural mechanics design activities for nuclear projects, ensuring all designs meet the highest standards of quality and compliance with relevant codes, standards, and CDM regulations
  • Perform advanced finite element analysis (FEA) on RC and steel structures, addressing seismic, impact, blast, and other load cases
  • Develop, review, and validate detailed design documents, specifications, and calculation reports
  • Utilise FEM software such as Code-Aster, Ansys, LS-Dyna, and others for design and analysis
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including international research institutes and laboratories, to integrate complex technical solutions
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of engineers and technical staff
  • Liaise with clients to provide technical updates, reports, and build strong professional relationships
  • Participate in project management duties, including monitoring budgets, schedules, and ensuring project deliverables meet quality standards
  • Lead technical seminars and training sessions for the UK team on advanced FEA calculation to enhance team capabilities and knowledge sharing
  • Contribute to R&D activities to advance design methodologies and tools within the nuclear sector
  • Serve as the interface lead for the mechanical structures of pools and liners within the Nuclear Island buildings
  • Nuclear Safety Culture: Uphold and promote nuclear safety culture within all project activities, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and procedures
