Job Description

Due to the continued growth and expansion of our Nuclear Team, we are looking enhance our technical capabilities and are seeking to recruit a Principal Mechanical Engineer.
We are looking for individuals who can apply their skills independently and as part of a team to deliver projects to the benefit of our Clients. Inherently the projects are multi-disciplinary and may be at any stage in the project life cycle. Our projects range from client consultancy support to complete turn-key solutions.
In addition to Mechanical Engineering duties, you will be required to both manage junior level team members and project report on their packages of work.
Additional responsibilities may include the client interface, assistance in the preparation of bids and proposals and then managing the delivery of projects in accordance with AECOM’s quality, safety and environmental procedures.
This is an exciting time for the Nuclear Team with an interesting and expanding pipeline of both international and UK based projects.

READY TO PUSH THE LIMITS OF WHAT’S POSSIBLE?

Here’s what we’re looking for:

The successful Principal Mechanical Engineer will have/be:

  • Hold a qualification in Mechanical Engineering, preferably to Degree level with Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IMechE or equivalent institute.
  • Demonstrable expertise with a track record of successful application of specialist knowledge or skills.
  • Current experience working in a post where design was a major part of the role.
  • Extensive post Chartership experience working in roles where your engineering knowledge of relevant practices, techniques and procedures is a key attribute.
  • Able to demonstrate Management of a team or function and in particular within complex or novel assignments.
  • Demonstrable record of successful delivery.
  • Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of:
  • Handling and manipulation of fissile materials in complex equipment and process systems
  • 3D CAD systems and associated data management systems
  • Able to establish new/or enhance existing processes/procedures.
  • Able to prepare and deliver technical presentations.
  • Understanding of design principles and ability to apply them.
  • Have a working knowledge of appropriate nuclear standards and specifications as well as general engineering standards.
  • Able to demonstrate good knowledge and experience in producing and having input to; Mechanical hand sketches; 3D scheme models; Functional calculations; Design risk assessments; Directive compliance assessments; Commissioning activities; Post project review meetings.
  • Able to underpin and agree remaining project work durations with Project Managers.
  • Highlight (at the earliest opportunity) when a task will not be completed to a previously agreed timescale.
  • Identify and report change.
  • Ensure that HSE legislation is applied at a project level
  • Provide input to QA audits as appropriate.
  • Report non-conformities, incidents and observations through the appropriate systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

You will also be self-motivated with an ability to work both autonomously where required, with a strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn and a desire to work in a dynamic deadline driven team environment.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on mechanical engineering projects, ensuring high-quality, innovative, and compliant solutions.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Successfully deliver projects and support other professional engineers in defining, executing, and completing engineering work packages.
