Description:

Main Purpose:
Trafigura Mining Group (TMG) manages Trafigura operational mining assets, conducts technical due diligences and provides technical support to internal and external stakeholders. The group is geographically located in several offices in Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Oceania.
TMG is looking for a Principal Mining Engineer to join the Technical Support Team. The Principal Mining Engineer will be responsible for conducting due diligence for internal stakeholders and support the various trading desks. They will be working as part of a multinational team of metallurgists, mining engineers and geologists. The position reports to the Head of Technical Support, TMG. The candidate will be based in the Trafigura Johannesburg office.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide written input to due diligence reports.
  • Financial evaluation of mineral projects.
  • Project site visits and interactions with and/or management of external consultants.
  • Project risk assessments and mitigation.
  • Liaise with trading teams on mineral project assessments.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in mine design (familiarity with Datamine software is an advantage).
  • Theoretical and applied technical knowledge in Mineral Resource Management disciplines: Geology, Geomechanics, Survey, Mine Planning, Metallurgy and Processing.
  • Experience in project due diligence.
  • Competency in project risk profiling and mitigation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-discipline technical team.
  • Strong review and report writing skills.
  • Ability to build financial models.
  • Project Management with a drive to meet tight timelines.
  • University Degree qualifications in relevant discipline.
  • Membership of a professional body. Able to be recognised as a Competent Person.
  • Minimum 10 years practical operational experience in underground and open pit mines.
