Responsibilities:

The Network & Security Services team plays a key role in the provision of services throughout the University. The team is responsible for the wired and wireless networks, data centre management, telephony services and network security. The role holder will work within the S&TD-NSS team on the operation and administration of principally the data network systems with a focus on Cisco technologies.
Specifically, the role holder will be required to be a point of reference for others in the area of fixed data networking and be the lead engineer in the management and development of the data centre networking and edge networking services across the University.
Additionally, to work with team colleagues, internal stakeholders and external service providers to ensure that the data network services are responsive and continue to meet the University’s expectations.
The role also backfills network and firewall security and load balancing and provides advice and recommendations on all other areas of the University campus network. Working closely with other engineers across the teams to collaborate on best practices to enable the digital and IT strategy.
The role holder will be the point of reference for all data networking functions and although there are no personnel management responsibilities you will be expected to lead other staff members on 3rd line support issues through to conclusion. This is a highly responsible role within the University support function, the role holder will consistently demonstrate a high level of experience and ability.
This is a fixed term appointment to 9 May 2025 (or earlier return of the substantive postholder).
