About the role…
As the Principal Operations Manager, you’ll be accountable for the end-to-end delivery of the entire Vegetation Management programme of work. You will ensure the day to day running of all on-site activities is delivered in line with the specific contract framework requirements. This is a fast-paced environment that potential covers a 24/7 delivery service. You will closely monitor the Client’s KPI’s against our performance to ensure that we are delivering to the client’s expectations, offering an excellent service and value for money.
You will ensure that all work is completed safely, on time, within budget; and monitor the performance delivery to ensure it meets the recognised standards of productivity, quality and compliance. You will actively lead and manage the programmes of work to the highest professional standards, working closely with Avove’s clients, supply chain partners, local authorities, and other stakeholders. The programme of work will be delivered through a blended approach of internal resource and supply chain partners.
This is a hybrid role based from any of our offices in North West England or the West Midlands area.

What will your day look like…

  • Monitor all delivery and financial performance against the programme of work. Identify any early risks and take the corrective course of action to minimise/recover the position against the budget.
  • Ensure the planning, co-ordinating and supervising the programme of work is delivered in accordance with the Contract and regularly monitoring progress. Where necessary, organise collaborative planning sessions, facilitating challenge to durations and opportunities.
  • To provide sufficient and timely supervision, assessment and coaching to your teams and supply chain partners to ensure all activities are completed to the required standards and are meeting the programme outputs.
  • Work closely with the operational support functions (design, customer experience, planners/scheduling, streetworks) to ensure good co-ordination between all programmes of work.
  • Promote and maintain all aspects associated with Health, Safety and Environmental responsibility and ensure the team complies with Avove’s Work Together, Safe Together ethos and H&S system (e20).
  • Manage the productivity and utilisation of your teams and supply chain partners throughout the programme of work to ensure the work is delivered in the most cost-effective way.
  • Deliver an excellent customer experience including the management of customer complaints.
  • Undertake regular site visits, maintain regular communication, and cascade key messages.

About you…
Are you a Principal Operations Manager with extensive experience in operational management, particularly within the Vegetation Management sector. Proven expertise in overseeing contracts through their entire lifecycle, including a strong working knowledge of NEC contract forms. Adept at driving process improvements, managing complex projects, and leading teams to success. Possesses excellent coaching, communication (both written and oral), and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and engage multiple stakeholders. Demonstrates a strategic approach to aligning operational practices with organisational goals, ensuring high performance and efficiency across all operational functions.
