Description:
The Principal Policy Officer will contribute to policy and research projects to support the Independent Ministerial Advisory Council to achieve its strategic objectives.The position sits within the Justice Reform Office (JRO) within the Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG).The JRO is a new, permanent office tasked with leading reform of Queensland’s criminal justice system. The JRO develops, tests and implements initiatives to reform the criminal justice system.
Our work is based on evidence and focuses on new approaches to: - reduce demand on courts and prisons- modernise Queensland’s laws- improve programs to divert people away from the criminal justice system- help people to break the cycle of reoffending.
A key function of the JRO is to provide support to the Independent Ministerial Advisory Council (IMAC), a new body that will provide advice to Ministers and government agencies on criminal justice issues.

The Independent Ministerial Advisory Council will offer its advice and guidance on reforming the criminal justice system and improving support for victims and victim survivors, particularly in relation to youth crime.
Members of the IMAC include victim-survivors, victim advocates, representatives from the legal sector and peak advocacy bodies, First Nations leaders and expert practitioners.
