Job Description
ACCIONA M&E is seeking an experienced Principal Primary Engineer with expertise in the design and management of primary systems for Transmission & Distribution (T&D) projects. This is a leadership role offering the opportunity to guide innovative, sustainable solutions in the energy sector, focusing on primary electrical systems, high-voltage infrastructure, and safety management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the design and delivery of primary systems for high-voltage transmission and distribution lines (66kV to 500kV).
- Coordinate with engineers to collect data, perform calculations, and produce designs, including single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and protection schemes.
- Ensure that designs are developed in line with project specifications, timelines, and budget constraints.
- Oversee site inspections, interpret work packages, and direct fieldwork to ensure that civil, electrical, and structural work meets the highest quality standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that designs are integrated seamlessly into the overall project plan.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards across all stages of design and construction, including preparation of safety documentation, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), and risk assessments.
- Manage project teams, ensuring efficient delivery, adherence to project schedules, and proactive communication across all stakeholders.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Extensive experience in primary systems design for transmission and distribution, including the design of high-voltage substations, protection systems, and electrical control systems.
- Proven track record in leading large-scale T&D design and construction projects, ensuring adherence to client specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Expertise in project planning, budget management, and resource allocation to meet deadlines and production forecasts.
- Strong technical expertise in the design of high-voltage electrical infrastructure and protection systems.
- Ability to manage complex projects and deliver on time and within budget, while ensuring quality and safety compliance.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical control, primary systems design, or T&D projects, including roles such as Principal Engineer, Design Manager, or Senior Engineer.
- Deep understanding of Australian standards (e.g., AS2067, AS/NZS 3000) and relevant safety protocols.
- Chartered status (CPEng) or eligibility to obtain it is highly desirable.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A current driver’s license is required.
