Description:

A Day in Your Life at MKS:
As a Principal Process Development Engineer at Photon Control Inc., a subsidiary of MKS Instruments, Inc. you play a key role in developing and transferring leading-edge optical sensing products to volume manufacturing. You will provide leadership by improving and guiding the transfer process, collaborating with cross-functional teams, mentoring junior engineers, and developing and implementing streamlined transfer processes. In this role, you will report to the Director of Advanced Development.

You Will Make an Impact By:

  • Design, develop and implement efficient and cost-effective processes for the high-volume manufacture of optical sensing products.
  • Lead the development and deployment of automation technologies to reduce cost, increase production capacity and enhance product quality.
  • Define and establish test methods and equipment to streamline testing of new and existing products, with a focus on automated testing.
  • Set up process evaluation systems providing enhanced insight into process performance to increase throughput and yield and reduce cost.
  • Partner with engineering and facilitate supplier value engineering in product development with strong influence in DFx (Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, Cost, Service, etc.).
  • Support the successful transfer of NPI products and processes into high-volume production, collaborating with engineering, manufacturing engineering and operations through a defined stage gate process.
  • Implement best practices and provide leadership and mentoring to cross-functional teams.
  • Prioritize, track, and report on the progress of team projects to department, site, and corporate management teams.

Skills You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of process development experience in at least two areas: precision assembly, tooling & fixturing, automation, and functional performance testing.
  • 10+ years of NPI development and transfer experience, including transfer to CM and/or working with overseas contract manufacturers or remote manufacturing locations.
  • 3+ years of experience leading teams (involving project management, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement).
  • Supplier interaction, including component specification, validation and second sourcing.
  • Equipment sourcing including acceptance, installation and qualification.
  • Vision, skills, and motivation to drive the development of improved assembly and test strategies for core products in development.
  • Skilled in risk management (i.e. PFMEA) and statistical data analysis using Microsoft Excel and JMP/Minitab or similar.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and team skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in NPI development in semiconductors.
  • Experience with optical systems.
  • P. Eng. or P. Eng. eligible.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time.
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, fumes, strong magnets, confined spaces, lasers, microwaves, and vacuum/pressure systems.
  • Flexible and willing to work in very fast-paced environment where tasks and priorities may change often.
  • Excellent time management skills and commitment to meet deadlines.

Compensation:
Salary Pay Range: $95,000 to $125,000 per year. This range is a reasonable expectation of pay for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience, education, training, operational and business needs and other considerations.
