CALLING ALL CONSENTS PLANNERS!!!
Napier City Council has an opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Principal Resource Consent Planner to join our team.
In this role, you will be responsible of the preparation, application and monitoring of the legal provisions relevant to resource management activities and responsibilities of Council. As an integral member of the City Strategy – Planning Team, you will be directly involved in ensuring the coordinated delivery of City Strategy policies, and ultimately influencing the shape of our city.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person with:
- A tertiary qualification in Planning, Resource Management or related fields
- Minimum of five years’ practical experience as a planner within local government, the private sector or similar, and at least two years as a Senior Planner
- Knowledge and understanding of legislation relating to resource management and local government
- Eligibility for NZPI membership
- Excellent communication skills
- A high degree of competency in negotiation, facilitation, coordination and conflict resolution
- Good sense of humour and a positive approach to work and life

Responsibilities:
- Act as a first point of contact for business and developers, facilitating and providing pre-application advice and support
- Ensure legislative obligations are met under the District Plan and Resource Management Act
- Report on key applications and developer initiatives, raise issues early and coordinate Council’s response, inform the Team Leader Planning and Compliance of all matters of concern.
- Assist the Team Leader with peer review, mentoring and coaching team members as required
- Ensure regulatory decisions are strategic and align to the City Vision, District Plan, Long Term Plan and positively enables activity and development in Napier.
