Description:
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- PhD in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or related field with 5+ years of relevant work experience in pharma industry
- Proven excellence from pharma industry working as a medicinal chemist or in similar positions in multidisciplinary teams
- Experienced in discovery phases from hit finding to non-clinical candidate nomination
- Experienced in target idea evaluation and validation
- Proven track record of publications including patent inventorships
- Deep knowledge of modern synthetic chemistry, NMR, chromatography, common purification techniques, and structure elucidation of organic molecules
- Excellent computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications
- Demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work
- Ability to work under deadlines
- Self-driven and strong organizational, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills in Finnish and English
- Ability to work effectively with other scientists (chemists, biologists, pharmacologists, etc.) in complex research projects

Responsibilities:
Organon R&D Finland is looking for a Principal Scientist to join the Medicinal Chemistry team. The purpose of the role of a Principal Scientist is to contribute medicinal chemistry expertise to all drug discovery phases, from target identification to non-clinical candidate selection, and support company’s drug development projects. The primary activities include but are not limited to the following:
- Run medicinal chemistry projects, from hit finding to non-clinical candidate selection
- Contribute to new drug target ideation, evaluation and validation.
- Design and optimize novel small molecules as potential drug candidates for efficacy, safety and DMPK properties
- Manage activities at discovery CROs and other collaboration organizations
- Contribute to execution and planning of priorities and timelines to meet project objectives
- Liaise with both internal cross-functional teams and outsourced partners in academia and in CRO’s within program settings
- Participate in synthesis planning and contribute to scale-up and route scouting activities
- Prepare reports, presentations and proposals to support new and ongoing programs
- Follow literature and patents
