Our dynamic, multidisciplinary Water team in northern England is looking for a Principal Civil Engineer to join our expanding Chesterfield, Leeds or Manchester offices. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to high-profile, industry-leading infrastructure projects in the UK and internationally, shaping the future of sustainable water solutions.

We’re working on a range of exciting projects for local and national governments, water and sewerage authorities, and major clients. These include:

  • Mansfield Sustainable Resilience Project, the largest SuDS retrofit project in the country
  • Major water and wastewater treatment upgrades for Severn Trent in Matlock, Derbyshire, and Worcester
  • CSO investigations and design solutions for Severn Trent, Anglian Water, and Scottish Water as part of the Caledonian Water Alliance
  • Local flood risk, drainage, and water projects for clients like Derbyshire County Council and Derby City Council
  • Advisory services for national clients including Network Rail, DEFRA, and National Highways on design and legislation

We’re involved in every stage of the design and construction process, from feasibility studies to detailed design, operation, and asset management, positioning ourselves at the forefront of the UK water industry.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Collaborate with engineers, hydraulic modellers, environmental scientists, and technical specialists to deliver high-quality projects in the UK and overseas.
  • Work across all design stages, from feasibility to detailed design, and prepare reports and technical specifications.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable standards and regulations, providing technical expertise on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Lead the technical delivery of complex projects, managing budgets and timelines.
  • Review work from other team members to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, developing project scopes, proposals, and communicating progress.
  • Mentor and guide junior staff, supporting their development and completing performance evaluations.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced civil engineer to lead on significant projects, develop technical skills, and mentor a talented team, all while working in a supportive and collaborative environment.
If you’re passionate about innovation and turning bold ideas into reality, AECOM welcomes you.
