ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a go-getting dynamic person to join our Private Sector Housing Team in the Thriving Communities Directorate. The post is full time working 37 hours per week and is offered as a temporary contract until March 2026.
The appointee will be involved in the full range of duties undertaken by the team but will primarily work pro-actively in Barrows designated Housing Market Renewal area. There will also be on occasion an expectancy to support colleagues dealing with housing standards throughout the Councils area and taking any necessary enforcement action when service demands require it. Other duties of the post include the regulation of Houses in Multiple Occupation, dealing with empty properties and supporting energy efficiency initiatives in the private sector.
It would be advantageous if you have experience of working in an enforcement role within a local authority or similar, as well as a having an additional qualification in environmental protection, housing, building, construction or surveying. Applications from professional tradespersons with demonstrable skills are welcome as it’s just as important to us to find the right fit for our team, and if the right candidate displays the qualities we are looking for then training can be provided.
You should be a team player but be able to organise your own workload and be committed to providing a high standard of customer service. You must have good written and oral communication skills and be competent in IT. You must have the ability to travel efficiently around the borough to conduct visits and attend meetings; a full UK driving licence and access to a car would be an advantage.
You will be part of a flexible and responsive Housing Team where we work together to get the job done.
The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice and instruction in accurate spoken English is an essential requirement.
