How you make a difference:
As a Physician’s Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will work under the direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher medical professional, and assist the Physician in providing medical care and treatment to the inmate population, which includes addressing behavioral health disorders. You will coordinate patient care plans by conducting assessments, developing plans, implementing interventions, and evaluating outcomes, all while working collaboratively with the healthcare team and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations at the agency, local, state, and federal levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily sick call, carry out treatments, and follow standardized procedures and protocols.
- Provide emergency care for identified medical emergencies and coordinate patient transfers to appropriate facilities.
- Perform minor surgical procedures, repair lacerations, and remove sutures.
- Treat and manage non-psychotic behavioral health disorders and provide ongoing care for patients on maintenance doses of non-psychotic medications.
- Participate in Quality Management and Peer Review activities, document findings using the S.O.A.P.E. method, and attend quarterly Quality Management meetings.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education
- Completion of a master’s program in nursing (NPs) or an accredited education program for PAs
Experience
- Previous correctional/detention facility experience
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience
Licenses/Certifications
- Unrestricted current license, certification or registration in state of practice - must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
- Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS and PALS (where applicable) certification through AHA
