About this opportunity:
The Process Engineer, working at the Lloydminster Upgrader, will support the operations, maintenance, and technical services departments by providing process engineering support to ensure safe and efficient operation of the facility. This position is also responsible for the completion of project engineering tasks as required to support the facilities capital improvement program. In this role you will identify plant vulnerabilities, resolve process issues in a timely manner, and work efficiently as a team with operations, environment, maintenance, and technical services personnel. This role also requires the individual to participate and facilitate various programs of the facilities process safety management system.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop project front-end scope, including high-level (+/-40%) cost estimates and project economics/business justification
  • Lead special projects and studies, such as debottlenecking initiatives, as required
  • Run outsourced engineering work for process engineering optimization, scoping studies, and design basis memorandum (DBM) development
  • Build AFE’s and handle project expenses within allowable budgets, collaborating with the Tech Services team to review, size, and specify upgraded or replacement equipment
  • Support the implementation and sustainment of COIMS projects, prioritize activities, and build Long Range Plans (LRP) and budgets
  • Provide process engineering support for EI project phases 1-5, including design input, P&ID reviews, HAZOPs, and model reviews, focusing on optimum design, operability, maintainability, and reliability
  • Develop design case simulations for brownfield and greenfield facilities, provide process parameters throughout project phases, and inspect process equipment during maintenance outages
  • Maintain process safety information (PSI) for facility project changes, including PSV resizing, relief system design, car seal management, and supporting Over Pressure Protection System by Design (OPPSD) reviews and Over Pressure Risk Assessments (ORAs)

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering (or an equivalent engineering field) with proven experience) and professional designation with APEGA or APEGS (or eligibility for professional designation)
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in operations or process engineering within an industrial facility, with the knowledge to interpret operating data to identify areas for improvement
  • Shown understanding of relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, Section VIII, ABSA, CSA B51)
  • Proficiency and experience with SAP is an asset
  • Experience with refining simulation software such as Aspentech or Petrosim, or equivalent
  • Strong leadership in personal and process safety, with the ability to lead and complete multidisciplinary initiatives efficiently
