Job Summary
IFF has an exciting opportunity for a Process Engineer at the IFF Newark Delaware site. The IFF Newark Delaware site is a part of IFF Pharma Solutions business and is a leading supplier to the food and pharmaceutical industries. The Process Engineer reports to the MCC Production Area Manager.
The Process Engineer is focused on supporting the production of Newark Avicel®, AcDiSol®, and Aquacoat® processes. This role will focus on day-to-day support of production processes and developing and implementing improvements to existing processes and products as assigned to meet Corporate and customer standards.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Troubleshoot process problems in operations.
  • Identify and develop process changes and modifications to enhance operating reliability and product quality and to improve the efficiency of key resources.
  • Monitor environmental regulations and performance against such as it pertains to project areas.
  • Identify and develop control mechanisms to improve the reliability and efficiency of plant operations.
  • Commission installations in a timely and effective manner.
  • Write operating procedures and train operators on start-ups and integration of new systems.
  • Develop expertise in Distributed Process Control Systems.
  • Participate in safety and health policies and procedures by ensuring that all processes and modifications to existing processes have been critically reviewed for safety health and environmental considerations.
  • Participate in hazardous operations reviews and project safety reviews.
  • Ensure all changes, new processes and equipment have been reviewed and comply with current Good Manufacturing Procedures (cGMP), ISO, and other quality and regulatory standards.
  • Support the plant’s safety, health & wellness environmental, and industrial hygiene programs.
  • Evaluate process changes, new processes, equipment, etc., to determine requirements for measurement accuracy for plant instruments and equipment.
  • Participate in quality training to ensure that the product is manufactured to customer specifications.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering – preferably in chemical or mechanical engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing operations or equivalent experience required.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis to be used for process improvement.
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures, processing equipment, and plant utilities, or equivalent experience at a manufacturing plant; pharmaceutical or food additive plants preferred.
  • Interpersonal skills for working in teams across functions.
  • Computer and technical literacy; demonstrated skill in the use of Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Excel).

The Pharma Solutions business will be taking on its next chapter of growth as a trusted partner for the pharmaceutical industry with the announcement to sell Pharma Solutions to Roquette. This move will position Pharma Solutions to expand its industry leadership through continued investment in innovation to meet the evolving needs of pharmaceutical manufacturers and developers worldwide. The sale is presently expected to close in the first half of 2025, pending regulatory approvals and other closing conditions. The Pharma Solutions business unit will remain a part of IFF until close and, at such time, it will transition to Roquette.
