JOB DESCRIPTION: The Process Safety Engineer manages the ResinTech OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) regulated process (Cation Polymer) to ensure safety and compliance by providing technical leadership and expertise in the development, implementation, and maintenance of PSM programs. The Process Safety Engineer is expected to be an individual contributor performing with limited supervision while leading PSM program strategies, tactics, and goals to continuously improve ResinTech’s program. The Process Safety Engineer reports to the Director of Manufacturing Operations, is located at Camden, NJ, U.S.A., and is not available for remote work.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Deep commitment to safety and integrity.
• B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in chemical or pharmaceutical plant operations, preferably in a process engineering, plant engineering, or manufacturing role.
• Comprehensive knowledge of chemical process equipment and unit operations.
• Working knowledge of chemical process hazards (toxicity, reactivity, flammability, etc…) and preventive measures (area classification, functional safety, etc…).
• Demonstrated ability to comprehend and use P&IDs, equipment and layout drawings, and specifications for chemical processes and equipment.
• Working knowledge of design and maintenance of process piping, pumps, tanks, and pressure vessels.
• Working knowledge of emergency relief devices and pressure safety design principles.
• Working knowledge of basic process control systems (BPCS) and safety instrumented systems (SIS).
• 7+ years of practical and direct experience managing an OSHA PSM program or equivalent (e.g. NJ TCPA).
• Experience applying technology focused PSM elements (PSI, PHA, MI, etc…).
• Working knowledge of Process Hazard Analysis, HAZOP, or What-If Methodologies with ability to coordinate with a facilitator to ensure facilitation and documentation of formal hazard/risk assessments.
• Working knowledge of PSSR and MOC reviews with ability to lead conduct of these reviews.
• Experience interfacing with Process Safety related regulatory agencies.
• Strong analytical skills and systematic and structured way of working.
• Interpersonal skills (personal rapport and influence) necessary to coach/train staff and collaborate with internal groups and outside agencies engaged in process safety.
• Proven communication and presentation skills and ability to effectively promote ideas within the plant and across the organization, including to senior management.

DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

• Certification or formal training in Process Safety.
• Experience with quantitative risk assessment methods and/or Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
• Experience designing/specifying emergency relief systems and applying pressure safety regulations.
• Formal training in Root Cause Analysis.
• Formal training in conducting audits.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to be trained in respirator use.
