PROCESS SAFETY SPECIALIST

The Process Safety Specialist role requires expert knowledge of process safety in a high hazard environment and will have a good working knowledge of UK regulations, including the Explosives Regulations 2014 (ER 2014), Control of Major Accident Hazards 2015 (COMAH) The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR)

The responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):

  • Support the business to ensure that our manufacturing and design processes meet the stringent safety requirements set out by UK legislation, specifically the explosive regulations and DSEAR
  • Promote a positive safety culture across the organisation, encouraging the raising of near misses and promoting continuous improvements in safety practices
  • Conduct risk assessments specific to high hazard operations (HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, FMEA
  • Lead investigations into process safety incidents involving energetic materials, producing thorough reports and making recommendations to prevent recurrence
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of high hazard operations, identifying risks and ensuring corrective actions are implemented
  • Implement Chemring Group Process Safety Management (PSM) Standards locally at our site
  • Support the development and testing of emergency response plans for high hazard scenarios
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities (HSE, EA) and other external stakeholders to ensure adherence to safety regulations and best practices in explosive management
  • Such other reasonable duties which may be required from time to time as directed by the Head of HSE
