DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Product Design Engineer to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Corporate Business at one of our Cummins Inc. locations, or if applicable, your remote home office, within the United States.
In this early careers product focused role, you will use your natural creative and innovative abilities alongside the application of sound engineering principles to support the design and development of world class product solutions that power our customers success.

As a Product Design Engineer, you will:

  • Hold an understanding of products, design processes, tools and techniques and apply them in our product development lifecycle projects and programs.
  • Work as part of a team to produce component and system level concepts.
  • Identify the best concept solution from the ordinary, while optimizing through design tools and simulation-based analysis to drive improved design solution direction.
  • Collaborate with multi/cross functional partners to define exact product specifications to meet our key stakeholder needs for a cost effective, innovative, and dependable quality product.
  • Utilize and build upon the core design competencies of mechanical or electrical principles to produce viable designs.
  • Generate 3D models and specifications through 2D layouts using Computer Aided Design (CAD)
  • Employ your awareness of manufacturing and material process knowledge to define products for prototype and production manufacture.
  • Consistently employ CAD Data Management practices and Product Lifecycle Management to store and share design development files, reviews, and reports.

You will make an impact by:

  • Assisting in the identification and understanding of technical, regulatory and safety requirements to provide a complete understanding of customer needs.
  • Effectively communicating all aspects of the design in cross functional forums, reviewing evidence to demonstrate the solution meets the needs of all key stakeholders.
  • Participating in cross functional reviews ensuring development milestones are met on time and to plan.
  • Using Product Lifecycle and CAD Data Management systems to help support the release, development, and maintenance of complete product structures, enabling downstream functions and processes to commence further development tasks.
  • Utilizing of both internal and industry wide international standards to ensure common specification for manufacturable products.
  • Processing technical reports for work completed during key reviews and close out of major tasks.

Effectively using:

  • MS Office packages: PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams
  • Requirements Management Database - PTC RV&S
  • MS Office packages: PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams
  • Application/interpretation of GD&T to ASME Y14.5
  • Ansys Discovery/Creo Simulation Live (as required) for FEA/CFD and other types of analysis
  • Dimensional Variation Analysis (Cummins inhouse tool for tolerance assessment)
  • CAD Data Management - PTC Windchill
  • Computer Aided Design – PTC Creo
  • Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis
  • Design Review Database for review management

QUALIFICATIONS

Degree Programs Considered: Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD
Major Programs Typically Considered: All Engineering Majors

CUMMINS FULL TIME REQUIREMENTS:

  • College, university, or equivalent technical experience required
  • Minimum 2.5 or above GPA required
  • Must be able to complete 40 hours per week
  • 0-2 years in a position/internship relating to your field of study preferred

Responsibilities:

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • A College, University or equivalent Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field
  • Effective communication skills along with strengths in creativity, problem solving, and systems thinking.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools or equivalents, especially Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Prior exposure to CAD/CAE solid modeling and drafting capabilities is preferred.
  • A postgraduate (Master’s or PhD) degree is typically NOT required for Product Design Engineering roles.
