Who will you be working with?
Unifin International is a business unit within Wabtec Corporation’s Components division. Originally founded in the 1920’s, Unifin International is an electric equipment cooling company, focused on the power generation and transmission markets. Our primary business is within North America, but it reaches worldwide from legacy fossil fuel and nuclear plants, to growing renewable energy power grids.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the Unifin International team, you will be responsible for applying engineering principles to design and evaluate current and future Unifin product, under the supervision of Unifin’s Engineering Manager, in compliance with all standards and regulations associated those products and the Professional Engineers Act. The product engineer will also be a technical resource to Unifin’s other departments, including sales, quality, purchasing, and manufacturing.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Professional Engineering License issued from Professional Engineers, Ontario
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in production design in a manufacturing shop.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Must be able to work well independently and in a group.
  • Must be detailed oriented.
  • Must have a strong ethical core with a professional attitude.
  • Experience in production design of pressure vessels under the direction of a professional engineer is an asset.
  • Experience with heat exchangers or heat transfer equipment is an asset.
  • Experience in field or laboratory testing of equipment is an asset.
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD software is an asset.
  • Experience with TeamCenter is an asset.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Review and seal design packages (drawings, calculations, test reports) as needed, including orders requiring certification to ASME BPVC Section VIII, Division 1 and/or CSA B51.
  • Review new order details and participate in contract review meetings for jobs requiring the review and sealing of design packages.
  • Prepare Manufacturer Data Reports (U-1, U-2, U-3, B51 forms) for review and use by Unifin quality department.
  • Develop and maintain engineering calculation tools including, but not limited to ASME Code Calculation Spreadsheet programs.
  • Provide technical support on issues requiring P.Eng. approval, including but not limited to material and NCR’s for jobs certified to ASME BPVC Section VIII, Division 1 and/or CSA B51; QA root cause analysis and warranty response; sales and customer questions related to potential new orders or installed equipment.
  • Carry out engineering or R&D projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager, in support of Unifin’s strategic plan
  • Support production design with independent checking of work during high order volumes.

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Majority of work will be via a laptop or desktop computer.
  • Will be required to enter the fabrication shop to visually witness tests or visually inspect defects/errors in production on an as-needed basis.
  • Must wear PPE (safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection) when entering the factory or test area.
  • Verbal communication via phone, teleconference, and in person.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
