JOB DESCRIPTION

Agilent inspires and supports discoveries that advance the quality of life. We provide life science, diagnostic and applied market laboratories worldwide with instruments, services, consumables, applications and expertise. Agilent enables customers to gain the answers and insights they seek, so they can do what they do best: improve the world around us. Information about Agilent is available at agilent.com.
Agilent is creating the next generation of security and detection products to ensure high performing products are provided to our end customers. The security and detection business creates solutions that are used in non-laboratory environments such as airports, border protection, fire service, police & military environments… As a part of this effort, we are seeking a talented Technical Product Owner to guide this new vision into reality. This role would join a rapidly advancing team and would be pivotal in continuing to drive software innovation for the security and detection spectroscopy products. You will work with an Agile software development team to produce innovative solutions for our customers and be part of a product team shaping the future of detection products at Agilent!
In this role, you will be responsible to define the requirements needed to meet the product goals for the next generation of our spectroscopy software. This requires a detailed understanding of customer needs and workflows as well as a fluency in Agile software development methods and processes. It also requires end to end vision of the customer requirements through to commericalised product. The ideal candidate must be able to break down the different customer requirements into clear tasks that software engineers can take and build into the product and provide detailed acceptance criteria to enable both the correct implementation and proper testing. Other responsibilities include providing collateral for outbound marketing and visiting customers to get clarity on their workflows and pain points.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for a motivated individual with the following background:

  • University degree in a software or science field (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Maths…)
  • Experience interfacing with a software development team is desired, ideally in an equivalent role (product owner/manager, technical support…)
  • Knowledge of/experience in detection & security industry would be an asset
  • Previous experience with user-interface design and/or Agile/Scrum methodology would be a plus
  • Full proficiency in English.
  • Eligibility to undergo and maintain appropriate Security Clearance

On a personal level, you are autonomous, customer centric and a team player. You have great communication and presentation skills to interact with many internal and external partners. You are able to quickly grasp requirements and propose creative solutions to problem solving. You have strong planning, organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Define, explain and prioritize Epics and User Stories in collaboration with the Product Manager, Scrum Master and other Product Owners
  • Ensure success through crisp priorities, regular backlog grooming, regular evaluation of progress, and clear communications
  • Understand and evangelize the proper implementation of software features to enable our customers to comply with regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with the Product Manager to understand product requirements (use cases, features, business and technical domain rules, and overall product goals) and to communicate development risks in order to prioritize implementations in a collaborative environment
  • Meet with customers to understand requirements and translate these into clear defined tasks for the software team
  • Maintain subject matter expertise with a deep understanding of the technical details within your focus area
  • Act as a user proxy with an intimate knowledge of related user workflows and needs
  • Be a shepherd for developer progress and an oracle for developer questions and concerns
  • Represent both R&D and users in discussing (and negotiating) priority decisions with product marketing
This position is based in Harwell (Oxfordshire), where partial remote work would be an option (hybrid model).
