We are looking at an increasing number of engineering programmes and projects that require support, ranging from the support of legacy propeller systems, current production propeller systems, new product introduction programmes and new technology introduction projects that will take our propeller systems into the future.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Product Support Engineer to join the Dowty Propellers Engineering Platforms and Projects team managing the engineering support of current in-service propeller systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing projects and engineering effort that could range from in-service investigations, design changes and repairs, production issue support, engineering aspects of product quality, maintenance manual updates related to your propeller platforms. This role will also require you to be the technical point of contact for your propeller system for internal and external customers including operators, airframers and service support, this would involve travel both in country and internationally to support and present at operator and user group conferences and to support project partners and engineering service providers as well as occasional supplier visits. (Travel is estimated at 10% -20% of time).
Support of the projects will have a high mechanical, manufacturing and hydromechanical control system content, including composite design and manufacture, so experience in a range of these areas will be essential.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, systems, engineering or aerospace engineering, or qualified to an equivalent level
  • Solid project management experience in an Aerospace or similarly regulated environment, ideally in a sustaining support role.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate and lead cross-functional teams, ranging from but not limited to engineering, manufacturing, and sourcing.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience of working with external customers.
  • A confident and articulate communicator, both verbally and written.

DESIRED SKILLS & CHARACTERISTICS

  • Knowledge of the aviation regulatory environment, including civil certification requirements, safety, environmental requirements including a working knowledge of operating under a Part 21 Design Organisation Approval.
  • Ability to coordinate several projects and engineering activities while balancing priorities and schedule commitments.
  • Demonstrated competency in using standard Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and project management tools such as MS Project
  • Technical background in complex systems including mechanical, aircraft control and/or electronic control systems, and a working knowledge of hydromechanical control systems would be advantageous.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with a working knowledge of lean or six sigma

Responsibilities:

  • Initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and control of assigned engineering projects including risk and opportunity management.
  • Technical project point of contact for internal and external customers.
  • Control technical requirements from customers, Dowty and regulatory authorities.
  • Develop robust project scope definition, estimates of work, plans and schedules as required to deliver project commitments within financial and contractual constraints.
  • Support bid and proposal estimates using work breakdown structure methodologies to estimate the labour and material requirements, and support the company strategic planning process, including annual budgets, spend forecasts, resource planning and funding requirements.
  • Obtaining budget approval, kick-off authorisation and leading Baseline Change Requests as require to support project activities.
  • Leading cross-functional teams and co-ordination of project requirements providing mentoring to assigned personnel to aid execution of projects. Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.
  • Administration and control of design changes.
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments clearly and concisely to stakeholders.
  • Leading and supporting lean activities and events.
