Enifer, a spin-off company from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, was founded by five scientists in 2020 to develop and commercialize the proprietary PEKILO® technology further. A process originally developed and used by the Finnish forest industry at a commercial scale, the PEKILO® technology enables the biotechnological conversion of dilute side streams into a high-protein ingredient, PEKILO® mycoprotein. By transforming circular economy by-products into sustainable, planet-friendly protein, we are pioneering a new approach to food systems—one that supports healthy, delicious diets for everyone while minimizing environmental impact.
We’re on a mission to make planet friendly protein accessible throughout the food chain. Now we are gearing up the production of PEKILO® mycoprotein with a new €33M factory located in Kirkkonummi, Finland. With already existing collaborations with the world’s leading food and feed companies, we are prepared to annually upcycle food industry side streams into up to 3,000 tons of sustainable fungi-based protein. The plant will be the world’s first commercial plant to produce such a mycoprotein ingredient from sidestream raw materials.
Would you like to be our new Production Director?
Enifer is looking for a Production Director to join its growing community of professionals. As a Production Director, you’ll play a pivotal role in our growth journey. We are in process of constructing the first food-grade PEKILO® mycoprotein factory in Kirkkonummi. Fully funded EUR 33 million project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, and as Production Director, you will actively participate in both the construction phase and the commissioning of the plant. You will have the opportunity to apply your expertise in the startup of the factory, and to bring your own ideas into practice. Once the factory is up and running in 2026, you will be fully responsible for production and for leading a team of about 10 shift workers. As a Production Director, you will report directly to the CEO.
The position is permanent and full-time. You will work at the factory in Kantvik, Kirkkonummi, and in the future, this role will also offer you opportunities to travel abroad.
What are we looking for?
You are the ideal candidate if you thrive on challenges, are genuinely passionate about developing the best production practices, and are eager to create something entirely new! We expect you to have previous experience working with production in the enzyme, food, or brewing industries, or in similar types of production. Ideally, you’ve already gained some experience in a leadership role and understand what it takes to work with a production team. You should have a relevant educational background (such as a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering) and be fluent in both Finnish and English.
As a proficient team player, you demonstrate strong ability to manage complex situations and excellent interpersonal skills. You are meticulous, self-driven, and possess great problem-solving abilities. You thrive in a dynamic work environment, adapting to changes with a balanced, yet professional approach that motivates those around you. Quick learning and professional development are part of your natural drive, and you are not afraid of the challenges brought by novel technology.
