Production Engineering Co-op / Internship – 12 or 16-month term
Be a part MEG Energy’s highly productive team and unique culture to gain on the job experience and mentorship within the Production Engineering group. This role involves approximately 30% Field Rotation at our Christina Lake site and will be based approximately 70% in our Head Office in Calgary.
Previous students in this team have gained experience with multiple projects and completed an end of term presentation before senior leadership highlighting their best 1-2 projects that made an impact to the business.
The ideal candidate will have some experience in the Alberta oil and gas sector and/or a keen interest in learning and contributing to the oil sands industry as demonstrated through past employment, coursework, or other student-industry engagement.

Your Day to Day will include:

  • Work as a member of MEG’s Calgary and Field Production Engineering team.
  • Ensure that daily production accounting data is accurately captured in production volume reporting system with a focus on steam allocation and production hours.
  • Ensure well testing and regulatory compliance are met by maintain well testing schedules and requirements
  • Maintain and enhance current databases within the Production Engineering group
  • Support Calgary and Field Production engineers with day to day well and production optimization.
  • Provide guidance, forecasting and support to operations and Production Engineering teams during both planned and unplanned upset events.
  • Provide guidance and support to operations team with regards to the start-up, operation and maintenance of surface field facilities as it relates to thermal well operation.
  • Provide leadership in all field related projects involving the Production and Field Production Engineering groups.
  • Demonstrate personal awareness and dedication to safety in accordance with MEG’s Environment Health and Safety Program. Participate in maintaining and further developing a strong safety culture within the MEG organization and demonstrate this in interactions with vendors, service providers, and the contractors with which we engage.

What you will bring to MEG:

  • Third year student from an accredited engineering program (you must be returning to university for at least one semester of your bachelor’s degree following your work term)
  • Commitment to MEG’s Environment, Health and Safety Policies
  • Strong multi-tasking skills with ability to manage multiple activities
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in MS Office
  • Experience in Tableau or other data visualization tools and interest in data analytics would be considered an asset
  • Ability to work in Calgary head office (70%) and field-based shift work (30%) as required
  • Ability to fly on chartered aircraft from MEG’s travel hubs and reside in Christina Lake camp when working on field projects
  • Class 5 Drivers License
  • This role will be based in Calgary for the first 12 months. For the last 4 months, you may have the opportunity to continue the role at our Christina Lake site reporting to a Site Engineer on a 7x7 schedule.
