Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Production Equipment and Facilities Engineer, you will coordinate and/or perform preventative maintenance and repair malfunctioning new and existing manufacturing equipment and setup and maintain an equipment data base/asset management system. You will also ensure that the lab has sufficient supplies to support production with minimal disruptions. You will manage and document work orders, respond to equipment requests, and complete routine inspections on equipment. You will also coordinate with outside contractors to maintain the building facilities. This position will be onsite at the Toronto location.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum Engineering degree or equivalent and 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Or, Engineering Technologist or Associate degree with up to 3 year of relevant experience
  • Prior experience with biotechnology equipment is required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of basic equipment troubleshooting and strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work effectively with computers and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with setting up and maintaining equipment databases and life science asset management systems
  • Prior experience as EH&S representative or committee a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools
  • Ability to work extended hours (evenings/weekends) as needed
  • Ability to work outside as needed
  • Ability to travel to for training at off-site Bio-Techne locations as needed
  • Ability to effectively problem solve
  • Must work well both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple different demands

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and/or perform timely calibration/verification/repair of equipment (including pipettes, centrifuges, water purification systems, refrigerators, analyzers etc) internally or with external testing laboratories or contractors as needed.
  • Perform internal calibration /IQOQPQ and troubleshoot issues of in-house analyzers in a timely manner
  • Design and develop new equipment for various manufacturing processes
  • Experience in a regulated environment with ISO9001 and ISO 17025 and be the representative for all equipment during audits
  • Ensure equipment meets all safety standards and complies with regulations
  • Work closely with process engineers to understand equipment interactions and limitations relative to operating specifications;
  • Establish PM strategies and protocols;
  • Install items in new office and laboratory space
  • Responsible for maintenance/repair of internal jigs and internally built equipment and tools
  • Responsible for the maintenance of calibration for reference equipment and tools.
  • Perform troubleshooting/minor repairs and/or coordinate for the repairs of malfunctioning facilities equipment including HVAC systems, air filtration units etc and determine root cause of failures and implement corrective actions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot equipment problems and develop solutions
  • Setup and maintain equipment database and/or life science asset management system, then create and maintain equipment performance metrics and track progress over time
  • Perform routine inspection of equipment
  • Provide technical support and install and train internal staff on new and existing equipment ensure personnel are following applicable procedure and standards within the laboratory space and when handling equipment.
  • Management of chemical inventory within our production lab
  • Coordination of disposal of chemical and biohazardous waste.
  • Follow guidelines and comply with all company safety, quality, and training procedures and regulations
  • Coordinate external contractors on facility maintenance
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
