Description:

WORKING HOURS:

Normal hours of work are Monday to Friday inclusive. The postholder is required to work such hours as are necessary in order to satisfactorily perform the role. Active shift operations cover during times of need.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Awareness of manufacturing process.
  • Technical/materials/yields.
  • Approvals/quality systems.
  • Business Finance.
  • Overview of planning and operational scheduling.
  • Full understanding of key business areas to including; Financial, Operations, Planning, Supply Chain, Maintenance.

EXPERIENCE

Previous experience of managing a small fast-paced manufacturing team or as part of junior/middle management of a larger manufacturing organisation.
Deep understand and knowledge of the department and process and ability to change the status quo.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preferably educated to Degree level within a relevant discipline.
  • Op-Ex, Lean and 6 Sigma trained advantageous.
  • Fully understands manufacturing best practises and can drive Operational Excellence.

Responsibilities:

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

Responsible for fully engaging in the delivery of operational strategy, capital investment and improvement work for the department. Ensuring development of the required culture, systems and KPIs to deliver the requirements for the above , including the support and development of Supervisors and teams within the Department.
Be the “process expert” and “go to” person, share knowledge, and industry best practise.
Lead, own and challenge the process and department, ensure mandatory compliance in everything we do. Formally document and drive the process forward, with manufacturing best practise tools and Operational Excellence techniques such as Lean, 5S, process flow analysis, route cause analysis and 6 Sigma.
Drive a culture of RFT, Quality compliance, continuous improvements and challenge the status quo.
To support and develop the Company Policy with regards to Health, Safety and the Environment within the Facility.
Make sure we are always operationally ready, have the resources, equipment and consumables to deliver the plan.

KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • The implementation and ongoing management of the Company Health and Safety policy and standards within the Department, through the development of a zero accidents culture and safety plan including attendance at Health and Safety meeting, identifying daily safety hazards, undertaking department audits and coordinating the completion of Risk Assessments, Job Instructions and Job Safety Observations.
  • Challenge unsafe practices and enforce PPE compliance at all levels.
  • Development of the departments Environmental Management system by maintaining current systems and introducing continuous improvement through targets and objectives.
  • Implementing appropriate measures to support the business objectives and ensure these are communicated throughout the operation.
  • Supporting and developing the performance and outputs of the Operational Excellence model; to include but not limited to Walk-The-Floor protocols, Daily Operational Meetings, Schedule adherence, Safety, RFT, Quality Performance, 5S, Lead time and Plant Availability.
  • Continual review of the factory process, identifying flow constraints and bottlenecks and implementing practical solutions to improve.
  • Carry out individual 1-1 sessions, toolbox talks and departmental briefings at the required frequency.
  • Develop and Review Improvement plans and prepare subsequent eRFA’s to support Capital Development plans to meet future business objectives.
  • Monitoring of planned maintenance, condition monitoring and maintenance initiatives
  • Responsible for monitoring Department spend in line with annual budget expectations and monthly forecasts.
  • Implementation and Drive site continuous improvement activities, alongside a continually evolving programme of Job Instructions/Standard Operating Procedures reviews and improvements.
  • Maintain the Quality Management System and seek to improve quality levels through a right-first-time culture.
  • Review non-conformance and Scrap issues at each production area and support Shift operations by developing corrective actions and building these into Job Instructions, using standard company tools and templates as part of the problem resolution process.
  • Review Monthly Quality results at Quality Review Meeting.
  • Support in the justification and selection of operator positions when required.
  • Provide recognition, coaching and feedback to team members including Human Performance.
  • First level disciplinary and attendance monitoring.
  • Ensuring that all equipment in the department is appropriately manned in line with capacity plans, skills matrices, and Net Production forecasts, taking alternative action to support if not the case.
  • Delivery of the production plan with relevant team members.
  • Continuously over check we have all the equipment and consumables to deliver the plan.
  • Continually engage in and drive SQCDP and the operation control process to the next level.
