HOW WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE AND GROW?

Calgaz produces specialty calibration gases. The role of Gas Mixing Technician involves working as part of the production team to fill high pressure cylinders with gas mixtures. This requires accurate calculation of gas mixture recipes, followed by the safe handling of various hazardous chemicals. Knowledge of a range of techniques and use of pressure equipment is required to perform the filling operations.
As part of the Operations team, working to ensure production targets are met whilst maintaining high standards of Health and Safety and Quality.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous experience in the gas industry/with pressure systems, working in filling operations is essential.
  • Ability to use a calculator
  • Attention to detail and ability to accurately follow a process are essential
  • Previous experience of mixing or blending chemical components is desirable.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a production environment.
  • Ability to work both individually and promote a team environment across departments and shifts.
  • Flexibility with respect to shifts and overtime, with a customer focused approach in order to meet demand.
  • The role requires shift work on a rolling shift pattern of “Earlies” and “Lates” alternating weeks.

Responsibilities:

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Calculation of gas mixture recipes considering factors such as order of addition, vapor pressure and compressibility of components.
  • Appropriate selection and preparation of cylinders depending on intended service.
  • Maintaining high company health and safety standards, always ensuring that company rules and guidelines are adhered to.
  • Ensuring companies’ quality expectations are met. Striving to meet customers’ demands and giving customers the best experience where possible.
  • Working efficiently whilst maintaining health and safety rules plus quality standards, ensuring companies strict production deadlines and delivery targets are met.
  • Safe manual handling of gas cylinders from 1ltr to 110ltr in size.
  • Safe handling of various hazardous chemicals including flammable liquids, high pressure gases and cryogenic liquids.
  • Operation of pressure systems and associated equipment to produce mixtures gravimetrically to a high level of accuracy.
  • Use of testing and laboratory equipment to verify mixture composition.
  • Accurate labelling of gas cylinders including contents and hazard labels in line with dangerous goods shipping requirements.
  • Development of skills to meet the requirements for the production of “oxyfuel” mixtures.
  • Aim to meet or exceed the production plan and targets, whilst fully following procedures to maintain Health and Safety and Quality standards.
  • Conduct daily checks on equipment.
  • Communicate any issues or non-conformances to management and other operational departments as necessary.
  • Manage and control stock in the working area to ensure stock levels of source gases and chemicals are kept at acceptable levels.
  • Undertake knowledge test.
