Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Technologist will contribute to the successful functioning and overall objectives of the Production team. This role will primarily involve working under the supervision of the departmental manager and specialists on specific product manufacturing processes. The role holder will take responsibility for the management of those processes and proactively work towards their completion within agreed timeframes. The role requires the candidate to have good laboratory skills and a good knowledge of upstream and downstream processes. The role also requires excellent attention to detail, problem solving, record keeping, organisational, communicative, inter-personal, and multi-tasking abilities. The candidate must be a proactive team player with the ability to work on their own initiative.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Completing fermentation and purification of recombinant enzymes.
  • Manufacturing non-recombinant enzymes using purification techniques such as chromatography and ultrafiltration.
  • Performing upstream and downstream processing of oligosaccharides and polysaccharides.
  • Isolating and purifying those carbohydrate products through a combination of rotary evaporation, membrane filtration, precipitation and chromatography.
  • Providing hands on support for all manufacturing activities including media/buffer formulation.
  • Adhering to all health and safety procedures related to production/manufacturing requirements.
  • Identifying continuous improvement initiatives and helping implement lean practices.
  • Supporting the writing and updating of batch manufacturing records and SOPs.

About you:

  • You’ll have experience in production tasks such as fermentation, chromatography and filtration a distinct advantage.
  • Experience in any production/manufacturing environment would be an advantage.
  • You’ll have excellent communication skills and be competent in the use of Microsoft Office software.
  • You’ll have great interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work in a team based environment.
  • You’ll be self-motivated with the ability to work independently to agreed timelines and to deliver on production targets.
  • You’ll have a degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing or similar.
