Description:

The principle of policing by consent relies on the trust and confidence that the public has in the police service and the wider law enforcement community. The Professional Standards Departments (PSD) plays an important role in the maintenance of that trust and confidence. Trust and confidence can be undermined by a failure to mange misconduct and complaints or to investigate corruption effectively. It is essential that these matters are dealt with openly and robustly in force.
The Professional Standards Team (PSD) require a volunteer to support with chaperoning officers/staff who are involved in hearings at Lewes HQ.
Please note the volunteer will NOT attend the hearing with them or be given any information regarding the hearing/outcomes.
The Role & Key Responsibilities
The Professional Standards Department team would like to appoint a volunteer to support with chaperoning officers/staff to and from their appointments at HQ when they are invited to attend hearings.
1. Meeting the member of staff/officer/witnesses at reception and chaperoning them until the time of their hearing.
2. Taking them to the allocated room.
3. Meeting the staff/officer/witnesses during any scheduled breaks and chaperoning them to an allocated room.
4. Meeting the member of staff/office/witnesses at the end of the hearing and chaperoning them off the premises.
5. Helping with setting up the hearing room.
Skills & Experience
1. Interpersonal skills
2. Ability to remain calm and professional
Please note volunteering hours will be dictated by the length of the Misconduct hearings. Hearings can range from 1-2 days depending on the complexity of the case. Hearings are irregular, with approximately about 10 a year. At least one month’s notice will be given to the volunteer for the scheduled hearing.
