This strategic post will lead and further develop Climate, Environment and Health expertise at LSTM, contributing to improving health outcomes in poor/vulnerable populations in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Candidates can come from a variety of backgrounds, including but not limited to health sciences, population sciences, social sciences, geo-spatial sciences, and climate sciences. We are seeking a qualified individual to research and translate science on climate change, health and equity, whose expertise includes one (or preferably more) of the following areas: research and education in climate-health policy, biological mechanisms of health impacts from climate change, climate change epidemiology, and intervention research.
The candidate should also be knowledgeable about the interdependence of the health of humans, animals, and plants and the health of the ecosystems.
This is a senior role encompassing key areas of institutional responsibility:
Research and academic development: The postholder will have a strong record of interdisciplinary, team-based science, including peer-reviewed publications and securing external funding. A focus on high-impact research, climate change impacts on health, implementation, and translational science is essential. Identifying new transdisciplinary research opportunities and expanding funding sources is key to long-term success. Strengthening partnerships in LMICs and investing in early and mid-career researchers is crucial for ensuring the institution’s relevance.
Leadership: The post will provide strategic leadership, communicating and championing the value and contribution of Climate, Environment and Health to LSTM colleagues working across the translational spectrum and at a regional, national and international level.
Education: The postholder will give expert advice and support in the delivery and development of our postgraduate education portfolio, with a specific vision to enhance the focus on Climate, Environment and Health within our taught programmes.
