Description:

Sheridan is looking for outstanding individuals to join our faculty team in the Veterinary Technician program. This program offers students a comprehensive set of practical and critical skills as well as knowledge in many aspects of veterinary clinical practice. Sheridan seeks a part-time professor to teach the lectures and/or labs in the following course within the Veterinary Technician program:

  • SCIE23672 Veterinary Lab Techniques 2: Urinalysis & Microbiology
  • SCIE25738 Radiography & Diagnostic Imaging

Sheridan professors are responsible for developing an effective learning environment for students while respecting their diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE(S) WILL ALSO MEET THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (preferred) or Registered Veterinary Technician with a Bachelor of Science (Animal Biology, Animal Physiology, Biological Science, or related field) with considerable clinical experience in a small animal practice;
  • Solid understanding of anatomy and physiology of companion animals, etiology, clinical signs, treatments, prevention, and prognosis of common disease conditions and associated pathophysiology;
  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level or equivalent experience as a trainer in industry Formal studies in adult or higher education is considered an asset;
  • Formal studies in adult or higher education are an asset;
  • Proficiency in computer software packages such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
  • Ability to convey the conceptual and applied aspects of knowledge to a broad range of students;
  • Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment;
  • Network of contacts with other professionals in the veterinary industry.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Delivering course curriculum in the classroom and/or online according to evidence and theory-based teaching and learning principles and in accordance with Sheridan Policies and Procedures;
  • Engaging students in meaningful and student-centered academic experiences, while evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the students’ work within assigned courses;
  • Tutoring and academic counselling of students, while evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the students’ work within assigned courses;
  • Attending periodic faculty meetings.
