Description:

The Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences and Green Templeton College intend to appoint to the Professorship of Transplantation with effect from 1 August 2025 or soon thereafter.
The post is open to clinical and non-clinical scientists. If at Consultant level, you must be medically qualified. For the duration of the post, it is expected that you maintain an honorary contract with an NHS Trust, and for this you will need to maintain registration with the GMC with a licence to practise and be on the Specialist Register as appropriate.
We are searching for an academic with an outstanding record in research and research leadership, who will ensure the continuity of the University’s research agenda in solid organ transplantation and provide a vital link between the experimental and clinical translation of novel therapies. This post has supervisory responsibilities for postdoctoral scientists, students and associate members of the team.
You will contribute to the highest quality medical research and will be surrounded by a stimulating and supportive environment of excellent and highly motivated academic leaders in basic science as well as clinical specialties across the departments of the Medical Sciences Division at the University of Oxford and Oxford Biomedical Research Centre. The focus will be on transplant basic science and translational research including transplant immunology, as well as strategic developments in clinical abdominal transplantation surgery. Both pre-clinical laboratory research and clinical study portfolios in transplantation at Oxford are very active and recognised internationally, particularly in a number of key areas including transplant immunology, cell therapy, donor organ quality and novel organ and cell perfusion strategies using innovative technology and targeted intervention.
You will be a visionary academic leader and an active principal investigator in pre-clinical, translational and clinical research in abdominal transplantation. Your task will be to pro-actively create, support and implement innovative concepts and strategies in the field of transplantation whilst supporting existing strong experimental and clinical transplant-related projects in Oxford.
The Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences and Green Templeton College embrace diversity and inclusion in their recruitment campaigns, and would welcome applications from candidates currently underrepresented in senior roles in the University, particularly women, candidates of colour and disabled candidates with diverse backgrounds. The University of Oxford actively promote and support flexible working across sites. While previous post holders have generally been employed on a full-time basis, we would be open to applications on a part-time or job-share basis, and can offer flexibility in terms of the number of hours worked, the schedule for working them, and the location of work (working from home, compressed hours, flexitime.)
For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Professor Freddie Hamdy at freddie.hamdy@nds.ox.ac.uk (Head of the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences). All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence and will not form part of the selection decision.
The closing date for applications is 12:00pm (UK time) on Monday 21 October 2024.
Research presentations will be given in late November or early December and interviews are expected to be held on Friday 17 January 2025 in Oxford.
