SUMMARY:

The role of the Program Assistant is to directly support the implementation of the After School & Summer Youth Program. Program Assistant will focus in fulfilling grant measures by managing curriculum, lessons, and reading assessments.
The Program Assistant will work with the director & literacy specialist of program, volunteers, and community partners to research, develop, implement, and facilitate various educational activities that promote healthy eating, positive personal development and wellness, and to engage and support students between the ages of 5 to 17 and their families in the community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma
  • Strong background in working with children and youth a must; preferred to be studying or have obtained an education degree and/or have the work experience.
  • Program planning and facilitation experience an asset
  • Ability to work with children in a respectful and empowering manner
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Strong community outreach and public relations skills and ability to liaise with community partners and leaders
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work outdoors for more than 3 hours.
  • Must be able to walk 2-3 hours during work hours

License and Credentials

  • Reliable transportation

  • Valid vehicle insurance
  • Must have a clean driving record

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel requirements for the position includes 10% local and 0% overnight.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Responsibilities:

  • Group supervision of youth with attention to the following: program goals, health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, safety, routine duties, character and skill development
  • Assist in developing, carrying out, and evaluating program curriculum.
  • Maintain appropriate records and statistics, and complete reports and evaluations as per guidelines
  • Complete service planning and assessments with students and parents.
  • Complete program reports for funding, contracting entities, and internal data reports as assigned by Program Director
  • Coordinate and implement field trips and outings
  • Create open lines of communication between parents and program staff
  • Manage student attendance through software applications
  • Manage drink/snack/food stock utilizing San Antonio Food Bank donations
  • Manage supplies and organize daily activities based on curriculum requirements
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Associate Senior Director or Senior Director
