Detailed Overview:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12 plus college or university courses related to education, general arts & science, business or health related discipline, supplemented with a minimum of 6 months related work experience in coordinating and supporting the delivery of programs to specified client populations or communities.
Proficiency in either Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu or other South Asian Language, is an asset.
Valid BC Driver’s License; access to a personal vehicle for business purposes.

PROFESSIONAL/TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to coordinate, plan, develop, implement, organize, evaluate and problem solve tasks and objectives.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborative in an inter-professional environment.
  • Ability to use related equipment such as personal computers, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software application packages.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and under limited supervision. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Provides organizational, administrative and coordinative support to the SAHI Leader and Institute in a variety of educational and program initiatives focused on the South Asian Community in the following areas:

  • Collaborates with the SAHI Leader and graphic designer to develop educational-based material and resources.
  • Within the South Asian communities, sets up community outreach to share information related to specific health needs of the South Asian population. Consolidates insights received from community members to inform program activities.
  • Researches specific educational needs and resources relevant to the health needs of the South Asian population. Consolidates information and suggests/recommends methods to convey information to South Asian population clients in order to augment and contribute to their personal health literacy.
  • Provides administrative support to SAHI to assist the program with program monitoring and to enhance the utilization of prevention services designed to improve the health and wellness of the community through programs such as: clinical prevention education, chronic disease prevention management, health literacy and health system navigation sessions.
  • Provides administrative support to the Leader and SAHI to deliver sessions/presentations at various locations, such as places of worship. Assists SAHI in the conduct of educational sessions and/or presentations, as appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Responsibilities:

Reporting to Leader, South Asian Health Institute (SAHI), the Program Assistant is responsible to provide administrative support related to the development of services designed to improve the health and wellness of the South Asian Communities. Working in close collaboration with the Leader and Program Coordinators, documents and develops materials to increase patient awareness and knowledge to improve personal health ownership within members of the South Asian Communities.
Some duties may include conducting key informant interviews and outreaching at South Asian places of worship within Fraser Health boundaries on weekends and evenings to provide educational resources related to the improvement of personal health ownership.
