QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Kinesiology, Sport Management, Business Administration, Economics, Marketing or other relevant field of study
  • Preferred:
  • High Five Training & Certification
  • First Aid
  • Certifications related to aquatics

Experience:

  • 5 years of facility or retail management experience
  • Experience in recreational sports administration in a post-secondary environment, fitness centre or related facility
  • Experience recruiting, training and supervising staff is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills to effectively handle inquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
  • Judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing inquiries and issues
  • Knowledge of facilities best practices and processes as it related to athletic environments
  • Demonstrated analytical ability and understanding of key financial concepts such as reconciling, posting and journaling
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Standard first aid and CPR-C certification
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence dealing with a diverse client base
  • A strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently
  • Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
  • Ability to work well under pressure and use good judgment in assessing difficult situations with potential conflict
  • Able to build and maintain working relationships with other departments, key business partners and external agencies (e.g. community sports organizations)

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director, Recreation & Active Well-Being, the Program Coordinator, Membership & Recreation Services is responsible for the leadership and day-to-day management of membership services, engagement, sales and support, along with retail services delivered to students and the public in the Western Student Recreation Centre. This position supports the Sports & Recreation Strategic Plan by developing and managing a range of strategies and supports for students and clients. This position requires a collaborative and proactive approach to operational needs, strategic planning, reporting and initiative delivery, with regular collaboration and contacts with a broad range of University colleagues, stakeholders and community members.
